DARK MOUNTAIN 27

My installation FATHOM is included in Dark Mountain Issue 27/Spring 2025, an anthology published by The Dark Mountain Project.

FATHOM

Seamound/Seawreath

Spent eelgrass, spent bull kelp stipes, clam shell pieces, oyster shell, barnacled stick, rocks, driftwood, sea glass

As the saying goes, “Time and tide wait for no one.” The flood tide was literally lapping at my boots as I created a seamound on the mudflat on October 12, 2024. The rising tide subsequently lifted the seamound, gently transforming it into a floating seawreath that the current sent sailing into the sea.

This action honored the gifts that tidal currents routinely deposit on the shore, only to retrieve them again in the cycle of life and decay.
