TIDAL NECKLACE

The endless cycle of gifts the tides deliver—seagrass, bull kelp, carapaces, feathers, bones, etc.—strike me as intertidal adornment; and it’s this idea of adornment that increasingly influences the conceptual approach to my projects.
Walking a radius of my armspan, I formed a trench that I later filled with nearby stones. Over the subsequent months, I added two interior rings, as well as a rotating weave of sticks and reeds, only a few of which have survived the tides.
Now it’s become a popular haunt for barnacles and shore crabs, which is why I resist meddling with it any further. Additional documentary photos are below:
